Email Marketing System

A complete email marketing system built from zero — lead magnet, acquisition flow, 5-email welcome sequence, and a live automation running in Brevo with real subscribers.

Building an actual email list from zero subscribers

Email marketing is the one channel most learners skip because it requires an actual audience. I built the whole system from lead magnet, landing mechanism, automation sequence and then promoted it to real humans. The result is a live, functioning email marketing setup with real subscriber data.

The lead magnet: An 8 week digital marketing self-study plan PDF. The acquisition channel: Instagram. The workflow: comment "planner" on a post, receive a DM with the link, submit email, PDF arrives in inbox. Entirely manual on the collection end, fully automated on the delivery end.

The full automation flow

The automation was built in Brevo (chosen over Mailchimp after Mailchimp's free plan limited automations to 2 steps). Five emails over 10 days, each serving a distinct purpose in moving a subscriber from "downloaded a free PDF" to "genuinely engaged reader."

📧
Email 1 — Immediately: Lead magnet delivery. Promise kept. Trust begins here.
📧
Email 2 — Day 2: The story. Why I built this. No selling, just who I am and why this exists.
📧
Email 3 — Day 4: One genuinely useful insight from my own project work. Real data beats perfect knowledge.
📧
Email 4 — Day 7: Best content piece — the Mitra Cafe Google Ads project. Let the work prove the point.
📧
Email 5 — Day 10: A question. What are you stuck on? Replies tell me what to create next and tell Gmail these emails are worth delivering.

Every free tool had a paywall where it mattered

The most honest part of this project: it took significantly longer than planned because every tool I tried hit a paywall exactly where I needed it. Mailchimp: welcome automations limited to 2 steps on the free plan. ManyChat: email collection requires premium. Carrd: form integration requires the paid plan.

The solution was a combination of simpler tools — Brevo for unlimited automation on the free plan, manual DM collection on Instagram, and manually adding subscribers to the list weekly. Less elegant than a fully automated system. More sustainable than paying for tools before proving the concept.

The real learning: Most email marketing tutorials are written for people who already have an audience. When you're starting from zero, the acquisition problem is harder than the automation problem. The lead magnet doesn't matter if nobody sees it.
